Updates for the week ending Sunday, December 9th

This summary is generally published every Monday, and is a list of SL viewer / client releases (official and TPV) made during the previous week. When reading it, please note:

  • It is based on my Current Viewer Releases Page, a list of all Second Life viewers and clients that are in popular use (and of which I am aware), and which are recognised as adhering to the TPV Policy. This page includes comprehensive links to download pages, blog notes, release notes, etc., as well as links to any / all reviews of specific viewers / clients made within this blog.
  • By its nature, this summary presented here will always be in arrears, please refer to the Current Viewer Release Page for more up-to-date information.
  • Note that test viewers, preview / beta viewers / nightly builds are not recorded in these summaries.

Official LL Viewers

  • Current Release version, dated October 18th, promoted November 14th. Formerly the Animesh RC viewer – No Change.

  1. The current Bakes on Mesh project viewer is, released on December 7. Either the summary is incorrect or LL released TWO updates to that project viewer on the same day.

Presumably any LL viewer numbered 6.0 or higher includes Animesh. That includes all the release candidate viewers as well as the BoM project viewer. The EAM viewer and the long-dormant 360 Snapshot viewer still have 5.x version numbers. There is not yet an 6.x Bugsplat viewer; at this point there should be one soon if LL has any intention of continuing that experiment.

    1. Oops. Yes. My fault. Forgot to copy over from my main Viewer release list – corrected. And yes, 6.x viewers are Animesh.

Currently (December 10th), only the Love Me Render RC and Spotykach Maintenance RC have been merged up to Animesh. BugSplat and EAM have not.

The BugSplat is being continued, as the Lab are switching to that service from their own Breakpad system (although the Breakpad code will be retained for TPVs to use). At the moment BugSplat is one of the viewers LL has in the running for promotion to release status, as per Oz Linden’s comments at the last TPVD. As the changes are purely to the crash reporting & viewer updater code (no functional changes to the viewer per se), presumably this can be merged, tested and issued directly to release without the need for a further RC update & then a promotion at a later date.
