Official Viewer Release Cadence and Version Numbering

  • Official viewer updates are generally made on a planned release cadence, with viewers generally issued as Release Candidate (RC) viewers (also referred to as Beta viewers, prior to being promoted to the default release viewer once sufficiently mature in terms of stability, crash rates, etc.
  • The viewer version numbering system generally takes the following format:
    • Major releases: Year.Release Number.0.Build Number. So: 2026.3.11223344556 = the third viewer of 2026 (2026.03.0) and has the build number 11223344556.
    • Minor / Maintenance releases:  fit into the above numbering system, but include a Minor Release number. So: 2026.3.1.66554433221 = is the first minor release to follow viewer viewer 2026.3 (2026.3.1) and has the build number 66554433221.
