My Review Systems and Settings

I use the following systems and viewer settings when reviewing viewers and clients for Second Life and OpenSim

Primary Computer System (2023)

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor 3.80 GHz
  • 16.0 GB @ 3600 MHz (15.9 GB usable)
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro 22621.1555; Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22640.1000.0
  • Video: nVidia RTX 3060 12 GB
  • primary drive + cache space: 1 TB Me2 drive
  • Network connection: fibre / wired ave 84.49 down  / 108.76 up (via Speedtest.net).

Default Viewer Settings for Reviews

  • Graphics:
    • Ultra
    • Viewer runs in a window (1920×1080)
    • Draw Distance: 280m (outdoors)
    • ALM enabled
      • Ambient Occlusion enabled
      • Shadows: SunMoon + Projectors -ON
      • Water Reflections: Everything
    • Max particles: 2048
    • Max avatar complexity: 80,000 (generally)
    • Max non-impostor avatars: 5
    • Post-process: High
    • LOD:
      • Objects: 3.75
      • Flexiprims: 0.5 (Firestorm)
      • Trees: 0.75 (Firestorm)
      • Avatars: 1 (Firestorm)
      • Terrain: 2 (Firestorm)
      • Sky: 48 (Firestorm)
    • Avatar Hardware Skinning
    • Terrain detail: High
    • AF enabled; AA 2x (default)
    • Streamed VBOs enabled
    • Anisotropic filtering enabled
    • Texture memory: 512 MB (SL); 1536 MB (Firestorm)

Secondary Computer System (2013 – upgraded 2017)

  • Memory: 16GB DDR3  1600 MHz

  • Video: nVidia GTX 970 4 GB
  • primary drive + cache space: 240 GB and 128GB SSD
  • Network connection: fibre / wired ave 84.49 down  / 108.76 up (via Speedtest.net).

    • Viewer runs in a window (1920×1080)
    • Draw Distance: 280m (outdoors)

      • Shadows: SunMoon + Projectors -OFF (other than for photographs)
      • Water Reflections: Everything
    • Max particles: 2048
    • Max avatar complexity: 80,000 (generally)
