Burning it up in the desert

Nexuno Thespian

Italian artist and photographer Nexuno Thespian brings us Fire of Life, a build with an almost poetic description:

A circle of stone columns covered by the flow of gold,
Are the rays of the sun and the red guards to protect
The flame of life, absorbed in adoration
Of a simple poppy dancing in the wind.

Points of Interest

The Temple

This year’s temple is a vibrant, colour-filled build offering a place to sit and contemplate as well as a platform to view the surrounding installations and camps.

Regeneration

Regeneration is a piece by Qwark Allen I really liked. You can find it just off Gate Road, itself a recreation of the entrance route into the real-world Burning Man Playa.

The Man

Of course, no BURN2 would be complete without its own version of The Burning Man. This year’s build is modelled directly on the one at Burning Man, and has been built with the support of the first life Man team. BURN2 is the only regional event allowed to burn the Man.

This really only scratches the surface of all the is on offer at BURN2. Throughout the week there will be entertainment, as well as familiar event such as the burning of the Man and the Temple (although the BURN2 calendar is admittedly light on specifics at the time of writing). Exhibits and installations are often interactive and can be entertaining in their own right.

If you’ve not visited BURN2 before, things kick-off on the 20th October and run right through the following week. Hopefully the calendar will be updated with key dates and activities (it usually is!), so keep an eye on the BURN2 website for more information.

More About BURN2 and Burning Man

BURN2 is an extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It is an officially sanctioned Burning Man regional event, and the only virtual world event out of more than 100 real world Regional groups.

The BURN2 Team operates events year around, culminating in an annual major festival of community, art and fire in the fall – a virtual echo of Burning Man itself.

  1. I really hope they’re all on the same server version, because LL are messing around with a physics engine upgrade this week. Anything mesh, you just have to take your chances again.

    1. There’s a lot going on across the grid, not only with the Havok upgrade rolled to LeTigre 🙂 – although the Havok update is clearly a problem given different versions really do not like one another.

Some work has gone into trying to ensure large groups of sims are on the same channel where this is feasible – Blake Sea has apparently all be consolidated (with those regions – six in total, I understand from Andrew Linden – which were on LeTigre being removed to the same channel as the rest of Blake Sea).

That said, while there are vehicles on the BURN2 regions, I think it safe to say most people move around on foot to take in the overall atmosphere.
