Your pocket guide to the RFL Xmas Expo 2022 in Second Life

The RFL Xmas Expo 2022

The annual RFL Christmas Expo opens its gates on Friday, December 2nd, 2022, and will run through until Sunday December 11th in support of The American Cancer Society and RFL of SL.

This year the Expo takes on a tales and fables theme entitled The Magic of Holiday Stories, and in keeping with this, with 11 of the 12 regions presented as “Chapters” in a storybook, with each telling its own story to visitors and landscaped by a guest designer. Rounding out the dozen is the Linden Lights of Hope region by Linden Lab, highlighting Linden Homes. Thus, the full dozen region comprise:

All to help raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Childhood Cancer initiatives, where they will be used in support, research and palliative efforts to help children with cancer.

Special Events

Lights of Hope landing point: once again Second Life’s premier builders are joining the SL Christmas Expo to present the 5th Annual Lights of Hope Home Decoration Contest, and this year, the region has been been playfully designed based on The Nutcracker story by SkyeRyder Varriale, of Varriale Designs. 

Each of the builders has decorated the outside of one of their stunning houses in holiday style and brought it to the Expo. Stroll the Holiday Road neighbourhood at the Expo and vote for your favourites by donation to the American Cancer Society kiosk in front of each home! 100% of all donations go directly to the American Cancer Society. You can even purchase some of the homes and / or  decorations from the American Cancer Society Christmas Expo vendors some of the builders have placed in front of their homes. 

Linden Lights of Hope landing point: an adjunct of the Lights of Hope events, featuring Linden Premium Homes decorated by Lindens and Moles. 

Build a Snowman Contest: get rolling those prims and build your snowman (build dates: December through 6th, inclusive). Plots are L$50 each (100% of all donations go directly to the American Cancer Society). original and unique snowman designs are encouraged, if prefab snowmen are used, they must include unique elements added to them.  The best builds will be decided upon by popular vote, which will be open between December 7th and 10th, 2022, with the winners announced on December 11th.

Photos with Santa: Santa and the Elves are at the Expo – see the schedule of their appearances and visit the Photos With Santa area and snap your holiday picture. 100% of the donations go to the  American Cancer Society.

Santa’s Sleigh Ride Tour: join Santa in his sleigh at Tour Ride 1 or Tour Ride 2, for a reindeer powered flight around the Expo regions (optional donations can be made via the kiosks alongside the tour start points).

The 7th Annual Stocking Stuffer Hunt: find the Christmas Stockings hung in participating Expo merchants shops. Pay L$25 (all donations to RFL of SL / The American Cancer Society) and claim a copy of its contents. And take note – there may be more than one stocking in a store!

RFL Christmas Expo 2021 in Second Life

The annual RFL Christmas Expo opened its gates on Friday, December 3rd, 2021, and will run through until December 14th in support of The American Cancer Society and RFL of SL.

Located on fifteen regions, this year’s expo once again offers a wide range of shopping opportunities, entertainment and more, all presented around the theme The 12 Days of Christmas. As with recent years, all funds raised during the event will go towards supporting The American Cancer Society’s Childhood Cancer initiatives, where they will be used in support, research and palliative efforts to help children with cancer.,

Merchants from all fields are participating in this year’s event, which includes daily entertainment at the Holly Jolly Café featuring a mix of live performances and DJs. The schedule of entertainment provides a day-by-day breakdown of all music events at the Exp, with the Holly Jolly Café the centre for almost non-stop entertainment. In addition, visitors can buy a ticket for the Holiday Shopping raffles, visit the Christmas Tree Lot and the Merchant village or stop for a Picture With Santa.

Activities and Special Events

This year’s Expo includes a number of activities and special events:

Shopping: over 150 merchants offering a variety of shopping options. Check the on-line shopping directory for direct SLurls to stores.

And don’t forget, that as a part of the shopping experience is the Christmas Stockings hunt. Hanging in participating Expo merchants shops is one or more Christmas stocking that has something very special from the merchant.

The Winter Breedables Fair: three regions of animals and breedables, culminating in the giant Winter Breedable Auction. See the Winter Breedables Fair page for details.

Holiday Raffles: this year sees the Expo offer two raffles:

  • The Shopping Spree Raffle, with the draw to be held on December 14th at the Holly Jolly Café. With tickets at L$100 or 3 for L$200, available via the kiosks to be found throughout the Expo. Two lucky winner stand to gain over 200 gift cards from stores across Second Life.
  • The Daily Holiday Shopping Raffle can be found at the Holly Jolly Café, with prizes valued at between L$250 and L$1,000. Tickets are L$50 each or three for L$100, with daily draws at 19:00 SLT at the Holly Jolly Café.

The Annual Holidays of Hope Ball: will take place from 13:00 on Sunday, December 12th. Sponsored by T1Radio, this formal ball is open to all Second Life residents, and will feature live entertainment.

New Linden Homes preview: catch the new Linden Homes theme in a special preview to be unveiled at the Expo on Monday, December 6th.

Also awaiting visitors, are opportunities to collect your own limited edition Patch on a Shelf elf via the special kiosks within the Expo regions, and have your picture taken with “Santa” Patch and the “Elf” Moles on December 10th between noon and 15:00 SLT, sleigh rides and more.

Located on fourteen regions (including the Linden Homes preview region (to the north of The American Cancer Society region) and the Linden Lights of Hope region adjacent to the main Lights of Hope region, this year’s expo once again offers a wide range of shopping opportunities, entertainment and more, all presented around the theme Christmas Memories. As with 2019, all funds raised during the event will go towards supporting The American Cancer Society’s Childhood Cancer initiatives,where they will be used in support, research and palliative efforts to help children with cancer.,

Over 200 merchants from all fields are participating in this year’s event, which includes daily entertainment at the Holly Jolly Café featuring a mix of live performances and DJs. The schedule of entertainment provides a day-by-day breakdown of the 100 hours of live entertainers, DJs and dance performances. which include live performers and DJs, all of which culminates in the Holidays of Hope Gala Ball. This year’s Expo includes a number of special events and activities, including:

The Christmas Expo Holiday Market: Back for its 6th year, this outdoor shopping event features 80 merchants for 2020,all offering a variety of shopping options, and you can take a look at the special items that are available.

This year the Market includes a Kids Holiday Market section in Christmas Morning, the the special kids region, and there is also a home décor market for all your needs, indoor and out.

Holiday Raffles: this year sees the Expo offer two raffles:

  • The Big Holiday Shopping Raffle presents two lucky winner the opportunity to gain a super goodie bag of gift certificates and prizes. Tickets can be purchased through the raffle kiosks at L$100 each or three for L$200. The prize draw will take place at 18:30 SLT on Sunday, December 13th, 2020 at the Holly Jolly Café.
  • The Daily Holiday Shopping Raffle can be found at the Holly Jolly Café, with prizes valued at between L$250 and L$1,000. Tickets are L$50 each or three for L$100, with daily draws at 19:00 SLT at the Holly Jolly Café.

Note that all certificates are transferable, and so make great Christmas Gifts, and all proceeds go directly to the American Cancer Society Childhood Cancer Initiative.

Auctions:

  • The Silent Auction: opening on Saturday December 4th, the prizes this year include gift cards with values between L$500 and L$5,000, a home with a pool, merchant mega gift boxes, a winter gown fatpack, an Animesh fatpack. Bidding runs through until 17:00 SLT on Sunday, December 13th, 2020, with winners announced at the Holly Jolly Café, starting at 17:15 SLT on  Sunday, December 15th.
  • Linden Auction items: The chance to bid on three special Linden prizes:
    • An exclusive Linden Home Package, including a 6 Month Premium Membership; a Private Bellisseria lot with their choice of a Linden Home.
    • The ability to create a New Linden Last Name to be added to the list of choices for new members.

As well as the above, the Expo this year includes: a gacha, a snowman building contest, Santa’s sleigh ride, and photos with Santa – which this year includes the chance to pose with the Lab’s Vice President of Product Operations, Patch Linden, on Wednesday, December 9th between 13:00 and 15:00 SLT.

2020 SL Christmas Expo: of memories and merchants

The 2020 SL Christmas Expo in support of the American Cancer Society, will take place between Friday, December 4th and Sunday, December 13th, 2020, inclusive. The theme for this year is that of Christmas Memories, with the organisers noting:

Christmas trees towering over your head while the Lionel train makes is journey around the base. Brightly wrapped gifts spread under the lowest boughs, as the aroma of sugar cookies and gingerbread drift in from the kitchen. Carols playing on the Victrola while the family gathers together to celebrate the holidays.  Christmas Memories of all shapes and sizes spring to mind each year as the holidays approach.

The annual RFL Christmas Expo opened its gates on December 5th, 2019, and will run through until December 15th. Located on eleven regions (plus 2 Linden regions) adjoining the American Cancer Society’s in-world headquarters, this year’s expo offers a wide range of shopping opportunities, entertainment and more, all presented around the theme Believe in The Magic of Christmas.

Over 170 merchants from all fields are participating in this year’s event, while the schedule of entertainment provides a day-by-day breakdown of the 100 hours of live entertainers, DJs and dance performances. which include live performers and DJs, all of which culminates in the Holidays of Hope Gala Ball.

The Gift of Hope Mega Raffles: new for 2019 are the Gift Of Hope Mega Raffles for both Christmas Expo and Non-Expo Merchants.   These are high end, high-value raffles, located at the SL Christmas Expo Welcome Region. Winners will be drawn Sunday, December 15 starting at 18:30 SLT.

The Holiday Shopping Spree Raffle: several Expo merchants graciously donated to the Holiday Shopping Spree Raffle offering one lucky winner the opportunity to walk away with more than L$150,000 in gift certificates and prizes. Tickets are L$250 each or three for L$500, and all certificates are Transferable, so they can make great Christmas Gifts. The draw will be held on Sunday, December 15th, 2019, at 19:00 SLT at the Holly Jolly Café.

Lights of Hope: now in its second years, Lights of Hope features a number of Second Life’s home builders (and Lindens!) who have decorated the outside of one of their houses in holiday style and brought it to the Expo. Stroll the Lights of Hope neighbourhoods – the Linden region features Premium Linden homes decorated by staff and members of the LDPW – and vote for your favourites by donation to the Relay For Life kiosk in front of each home! 100% of all “votes” goes directly to the American Cancer Society.

The ACS Ebbe Linden Bear: designed by Magic Mole and presented playing one of Lab CEO Ebbe Altberg’s favourite pastimes and complete with his ACS Gold Together cap, is the ACS Ebbe Linden bear. Available from kiosks at L$250 (all proceeds to ACS), you can also find the little fellow about to tee-off at a snow-covered ninth hole at the Bear Creek golf course at the Expo, so you can see him up close!

Breedable Auctions: There will be a number of Breedable auctions throughout the Expo, including a One of a Kind auction and a Limited Edition auction.

Linden Homes 4th Theme Reveal: an opportunity to preview the Victorian Theme of Premium Linden Homes that will be available in the Linden Homes continent of Bellisseria in the near future  – and have the chance to win one and a 6-month Premium subscription / extension to your existing Premium subscription. Linden Reveal and the 4th new Linden Home theme at the SL Christmas Expo

By taking part in these events, and in the Expo as a whole, Second Life users can help provide funding for VR Headsets for childhood cancer patients.  Along with Linden Lab, the ACS partner for the event, and the Expo’s sponsors and participants, ACS and RFL of SL are working to reach a goal of US $20,000 to help fund the Society’s Virtual Reality Programme for Paediatric Cancer Patients undergoing cancer treatment. 2019 SL Christmas Expo: call for DJs, helpers, bloggers and more

The 2019 SL Christmas Expo in support of the American Cancer Society via Relay for Life of Second Life will take place from Thursday, December 5th through Sunday, December 15th, 2019 with the theme of Believe in the Magic of Christmas, and the doors have opened for merchant registrations and sponsorship.

The aim of this year’s event is to raise $20,000 toward the American Cancer Society VR Headset programme for kids receiving cancer treatment.

Over the past few days / weeks the organisers have put out a number of calls for interested parties to sign-up to the event.

In particular, the organisers are seeking DJs, hosts and stage managers to help with the event’s entertainment programme, and for bloggers interested in cover the event. A call has also gone out to breedable auction houses interested in participating in the Xmas Expo.

DJs / Broadcasters, Hosts and Stage Managers

The event is looking to offer as much non-stop entertainment throughout the Expo, but in order to do so they need DJs and broadcasters willing to provide that entertainment, and hosts and stage managers to help with running the entertainment activities.

DJs / Broadcasters are asked to fill out the DJ application form, and note the following guidelines:

  • Performances cannot be adult in nature – this includes behaviour, music, objects, avatars, sets, or props etc. However, performances do not have to have a Christmas / holiday theme.
  • Tip jars are not permitted, as this is a charity event, and RFL of SL donation kiosks will be available in the performance areas.
  • All performers will be supplied with a note card listing key points and sponsors to be mentioned during their sets, and are asked to mention at least one during their set – although they may mention more.

Stage Managers will be asked to oversee event hosts (including ensuring entertainment notices have been posted), ensure proper streams are set and performers are at the correct locations.

Hosts will be asked to offer assistance to attendees when required and engage with attendees (welcome them, etc.), share information about the event and mission of the Expo and send group notices on the events they are host are sent out.

Those interested in being either a stage manager or event host are asked to complete and submit the Christmas Expo Stage Manager / Event Host application form.

Bloggers

The SL Christmas Expo welcomes all bloggers to participate and share the holiday magic, promote the event and the activities at the event and encourage attendance. Full details on opportunities for blogging, expectations and requirements can be found on the SL Christmas Expo Blogger application form.

Breedable Auctions at the Expo

All Breedable Creators and Auction Houses are encouraged to show their support for The American Cancer Society by holding one or more auctions at the SL Christmas Expo. This auction will be promoted as being sponsored by the creator or auction house running it, and should involve a minimum of 15 breedables being auctioned.

Space will be provided at the Expo, and auctions will be promoted via the SL Christmas Expo web page and social media in addition to any advertising run by the creator / auction house through their own channels / groups.

Creators / auctions houses will be responsible for organising and running their auctions, and all proceeds must go to RFL of SL.

Please refer to the Breedable Auctions page on the official SL Christmas Expo website for additional information. Those interested in running an auction should complete and submit the Auction House reservation form, no later than Thursday, November 28th.
