Lab issues 2019 snowball fight challenge

Winter Wonderland – the Snowball Arena

The holiday period commences at the weekend, and to mark the end of the 2019 working year, Linden Lab has once again issued a challenge to Second Life users to join them in the Winter Wonderland for a snowball fight that will take place on Friday, December 20th.

Get your warm clothes and throwing arms ready – it’s time for a Lindens and Residents snowball fight! This Snowball Showdown means you’re free to pelt your fellow Second Life Residents and Lindens with a bevy of sparkling snowballs- launched fresh from the snow-arsenal available at the arena.

– from Joy to the Grid! A Snowball Fight Cometh!

This year there will be two fight sessions, the first between 10:00 and 11:00 SLT, and the second between 14:00 and 15:00.

As with previous years, the challenge will be played out in the two regions of the snowball fight arena in the Winter Wonderland. Weapons can be obtained at the entrances to the Snowball Arena, one of which I’ve linked to in the above SLurl. Just touch the weapons vendor for a HUD. By default, users have a choice of a Snow Pistol or Snow Rifle. However, Premium members can claim their 2019 Winter Premium Gift and get a Token to obtain a SnowZooka.

Collect your weapons at the vendors in the Snowball Arena.

For those who may not have previously visited the Winter Wonderland, the location also includes a winter snow track for snowboard and snow mobile racing, a skating ring, a Ferris wheel, and spaces to walk as well as the snowball arena and the village – so lots to enjoy.

Coming slightly later this year is the Lab’s annual snowball fight challenge. The challenge was issued in a brief blog post with the invitation:

Come one – come all to the Snowball Arena for a friendly ice battle of epic proportions! This Snowball Showdown means you’re free to pelt your fellow Second Life Residents and Lindens with a bevy of sparkling snowballs! But the Lindens and your fellow Residents get to return fire with their own avalanche of snow-arsenal.

The event itself will take place between 11:00-13:00 SLT on Friday, December 21st at – where else? – the Snowball Arena in Winter Wonderland.

As with previous years, Winter Wonderland is a 5-region experience which, for those who haven’t visited, includes the 2-region snowball fight arena, a winter snow track for snowboard and snow mobile racing, a skating ring, a Ferris wheel, and spaces to walk. The best place to start explorations is the Village of Light, where the Lindens tend to place a seasonal gift.

Weapons can be obtained at the entrances to the Snowball Arena – walk through the Village of Light and climb the steps up into the hills behind the village. Snowball guns can be collected at the vendors around the Snowball Arena.

Collect your weapons at the vendors in the Snowball Arena. If you are Premium, you can use your Premium Member’s Token or HUD to claim the Premium-only Snow Zooka weapon (outlines in red on the HUD and in the vendor, above)

For those who are Premium members and who haven’t participated in the snowball fight before, don’t forget you can use your Premium Member’s Token or HUD you can claim additional Snow Zooka weapon. If you don’t have the Token HUD, you can can claim them by picking up the latest Premium gift, the Winter Cabin from any of the Premium Gift Kiosks. Lab issues 2017 snowball fight challenge

Winter Wonderland – the Snowball Arena

After a brief stint as a ghostly setting for Halloween and a pumpkin smash fight, the Winter Wonderland is back to its former snowy glory, and the Lab has announced a date for one of the Second Life winter traditions: the Lindens vs. residents snowball challenge:

Holidays have traditions – the gathering of families, the giving of gifts, the food and merriment, and – in our case – the Linden/Resident Snowball Showdown! This is your chance to arm yourself with some sweet snow-slinging artilleri [sic], take to the sparkling ice, and attack your friends, fellow Residents, and some Lindens with snowballs galore! But, you had better be prepared to get pummeled in return, because much of the joy of the holidays is giving – even if that means giving someone a snowball sandwich when they are least expecting it. Join us at the Snowball Fight Arena on Friday – December 15th from 11 am to 1 pm (SLT) and prepare to get pummelled!

Winter Wonderland

This year does bring some changes to the Winter Wonderland. The race track has been revised, and a smaller version of the Village of Light can be found on the far side of the track to the main village. So, even if you’re previously visited Winter Wonderland, a repeat visit may well be worthwhile.

Don’t forget that Friday, March 17th marks the last residents vs. Lab snowball fight for the 2016 / 2017 winter season.

There are two fight sessions scheduled:

  • 13:00-14:00 SLT

Again, both are on Friday, March 17th, 2017.

The 5-region Winter Wonderland can be reached either through the new portal parks (reviewed here), or via direct teleport to the landing point. Just walk through the village on arrival and follow the path up over the hills. Kiosks at the entrance to the arena are available for obtaining your weapons.

Those who are Premium members can also pick-up the latest Premium gift via the Premium Kiosks,  which once again includes a wearable token which allows you to upgrade your snowball weapons. I have no idea if the tokens given out in previous years also work as … I deleted mine!
