Bay City Fashion Week 2013

BayCityFashionIn a week where many eyes are going to be focused on Fantasy Faire, it’s worth remembering that April 20th through 29th 2013 also marks Bay City Fashion Week.

Now it its second year, the event is a week-long celebration of style and design in SL hosted at the Bay City Fairgrounds, North Channel. This year, the selected theme is The American Urban Experience 1940-1965, and will feature displays from a selected cadre of designers, together with fashion shows and other activities.

The designers taking part in this year’s event include Schadenfreude, Sonatta Morales, Misha Kerang Designs, FIN, Robin (Sojourner) Wood, Eclectica, Volstead, 1-800-BETTIES, Ingenue, Purplemoon Creations, Rhapsody, Vita Bella, Delicate Sensibilities, and Pure Poison. They were selected on the basis of their designs fitting the theme for this year’s event, which is perhaps best typified by Chicago circa 1950, and marked by a distinct deco influence.

In a week which is going to be dominated by Fantasy Faire, the Bay City Fashion Week offers a possible escape to a more intimate affair, and is certainly a must-see visit for those into vintage fashion designs – so why not pop over and take a look?

Further information on the event can be obtained from Marianne McCann in-world.

About Bay City

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest Bay city group, and home to most Residents of Bay City.

Fantasy faire: previewing a fabulous week

ff13_posterno2_724x1024Fantasy Faire 2013 gets underway on Saturday, 20th April 2013 in a week-long celebration of all things fantasy and fantasy role-play in Second Life and in direct support of Relay for Life of Second Life.

This year brings together another set of stunning regions created by some of SL’s top designers and packed full of lots of goodies from content creators right across the grid. And the builds themselves really are amazing to see – so even if you’re not into fantasy or fantasy RP yourself, I really do recommend that you find time to go along and have a look at the eight themed regions as photos and words simply do not do them justice.

Fairelands by Saiyge Lotus

You can start your visit at Fairelands, where you’ll find a lush woodland by Saiyge Lotus, complete with teleports within tree trunks to whisk you to any of the eight themed regions. When you want rest and respite from the rushing around the Faire, come back here to sit and rest and renew among the trees or in the tall grass or sitting at the water’s edge…

Here’s an overview of each of the regions, together with a list of stores within them and some pictures I hope will whet appetites. I’ll be looking at some of the regions themselves in more detail over the next few days.

SL10BCC: Apply to be a part of the celebrations!

SL10B-CC_WordPress

The SL10B Community Celebration, celebrating the tenth anniversary of Second Life being open to the public, takes place across June 16th through 23rd, 2013.  With the theme of Looking Forward, Looking Back, the event is an opportunity for us all to celebrate the last ten years of Second Life and look forward to what the next ten years of Second Life and virtual worlds might bring.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been involved in Second Life the full ten years or just ten months; this is a chance for all of us to contribute and celebrate – and as from Monday April 15th, applications are open to everyone who wants to celebrate their Second Life with us!

The Regions

The 20 regions for this year’s celebration are already here, and we’re hoping they’ll Astonish, Astound, Beguile, Captivate, Dazzle, Electrify, Enchant, Exhilarate, Fascinate and Mesmerize all who attend the week-long celebration, and that you’ll very much be a part of things by applying to be an exhibitor or presenter or performer, and bring your own Impressive, Incredible, Magnificent, Stupendous and Wonderous visions and talents to the celebrations and help fill the week with Pizzazz and make it the most Awesome, Spectacular and Stunning birthday event yet (and yes, the clues to the regions names are pretty obvious there!).

sl10b-enchant

The regions aren’t open as yet – but as mentioned above, applications to be a part of the event are open, and will remain open until midnight SLT on Monday, May 20th.

So, if you want to be a part of things – here’s how:

Event Policies

Please make sure you read the event policies and understand all requirements.

Exhibitors

If you want to:

  • Host an art installation
  • Host an informative exhibition
  • Promote a community group
  • Run an instructional media activity  (writing, machinima, photography, etc.)

You need an EXHIBITOR APPLICATION

Performers

If you want to be involved in the musical celebration as a:

  • Live Performer
  • DJ

You need a PERFORMER APPLICATION

Presenters

If you want to:

  • Talk on a topic
  • Run a workshop
  • Teach a class
  • Do performance art
  • Put on a media event

Then you need an AUDITORIUM APPLICATION

And There’s More…

Volunteer!

Events like the SL10B Community Celebration need help – lots of help. So even if you don’t feel you can be an exhibitor, performer or presenter but want to be more of a part of things – then why not volunteer to help out? It’s a great way to be an essential part of things, make friends and get to see all that goes on throughout the celebrations. Orientation and training is given for many of the roles, so there’s no danger of simply being chucked into the deep end (although you’ll have to give up a little time to attend training sessions, obviously!).

The SL10B website has lots of information about key support roles, such as Event Host / Greeters. Exhibitor Assistant,  Moderators, and Stage Managers. So if you’d like to volunteer to one (or several – yes, you can apply for more than one!) of these then please fill-out the VOLUNTEER APPLICATION.

Blog and report!

If you have a blog or other publication, we encourage you to apply. You can be “embedded” – you will promise to post about the event at least once a week or put up photos at least once a week and in return for that, you will get special early access to SL10B and an invite to Press Day!  Or – if you can’t post or put up pictures so often – you can still be on the Special Press Pass List – you’ll receive an invite to the Press Day, June 14 & 15.

Woodstock, RFL style

aaa
Teams’R’Us present Woodstock in Second Life, complete with a poster inspired by Arnold Skolnick’s original

Update: SLurl for the event added, but will not be open to the public until the event doors open on the 15th April, 2013.

In August 1969 Max Yasgur opened the gates of his 600-acre dairy farm near White Lake in the Catskills of New York to host what became the festival which defined an era and a movement.

Woodstock, billed as “An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music”, held between the 15th and 18th August 1969, has since passed into legend as well as history as the time when flower power and the desire for peace in our times came into full bloom.

As a part of a series of special events in aid of RFL of SL, Teams’R’Us are offering all of us a chance to travel back in time to the end of the 1960s with a special 3-day celebration of the festival and the decade which will feature music of the era, stalls, auctions and more  – all in aid of this year’s RFL of SL efforts.

Gem Sunkiller invites us all to join in the event with a warm, “Come let your hair down and have fun with us!”

TRU Woodstock
TRU Woodstock

The festival will take place on a specially prepared region – TRU Woodstock – which stands as a recreation of Max Yasgur’s farm field, complete with decorated camper vans, wooden stage and  – of course – lashings of mud!

The event kicks-off on Monday, 15th April at noon SLT and runs through until 22:00 SLT on Wednesday, 17th April, with musics and events scheduled between noon and 22:00 SLT on each day of the festival.

Fantasy Faire: A peek of things a week away

ff13_posterno2_724x1024We’re just a week away from the start of Fantasy Faire 2013. The regions have been delivered, the themes set, and build ing underway.

This year will see a total of eight themed regions for the Faire, all designed by some of the leading creative minds in Second Life, with the Fairelands Junction making up the ninth region, and all of them located alongside The American Cancer Society’s home region.

It’s still early days in the builds, but if last year is anything to go by, this year will again be spectacular. While I really don’t like to sound as if I have favourites, I have to admit that I’m really looking forward to seeing Elicio Ember’s work once again – his work always leaves me both breathless and enchanted; and I’m also really looking for to seeing Sharni Azalee and Marcus Inkpen’s Lotus Valley Dream. anyone who has ever visited The Looking Glass will know why!

The eight themed regions and their designers are:

Crimson Fields by Laufey Markstein: The field of Oblivion will be built as an homage to Stephen King’s “Dark Tower” series, and will feature a central, gothic and ominous dark tower, in a wide open field of overgrown thorns and scarlet red roses.
