The following notes were taken from the Tuesday, October 13, 2026 Simulator User Group (SUG) meeting. These notes form a summary of the items discussed, and are not intended to be a full transcript. A video of the meeting by Pantera is embedded at the end of this summary – my thanks to her for providing it.
Meeting Overview
- The Simulator User Group (also referred to by its older name of Server User Group) exists to provide an opportunity for discussion about simulator technology, bugs, and feature ideas is held every other Tuesday at 12:00 noon, SLT (holidays, etc., allowing), per the Second Life Public Calendar.
- The “Leviathan Office Hour” meetings are held on the Tuesdays which do not have a formal SUG meeting, and are chaired by Leviathan Linden. They are more brainstorming / general discussion sessions.
- Meetings are held in text in-world, at this location.
Simulator Deployments
- The Nectarine update (simulator code version 2026-09-28.36457939353) was deployed to the SLS Main grid, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, making it grid-wide.
- RC channels will be restarted on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, but no ne deployment.
- A reminder that the Breeze RC channel, covering “almost all” of the Blake Sea regions on the Main grid (Agni) contains Pepper Linden’s region crossing code improvements for vehicles, and they are requesting people test the code as much as possible, particularly corner-to-corner crossings between regions.
- Feedback can be presented via this Canny.
- If all goes well, these updates will likely be included in the Olive update.
- The next update for the simhost servers have been code-named Olive.

New Group Ability to Define Who Can Post Links to Group Chats
- Leviathan Linden is developing the new Group ability I’ve previously mentioned to define who can / cannot post non-Whitelisted LL domain URL links to Group chat.
- The Whitelist of allowed URLs – those anyone can post, regardless of whether or not they have the ability to do so – will be limited to trusted domains from LL – such as the Marketplace, the SL blogs, secondlife.com, etc.
- This ability will be toggle on/off, per other abilities and will be added to the default Everyone, Owner and Officer roles, with Group Owners and moderators able to set it as required.
- Messages posted with URL links by those not authorised to do so will see the message go through, but the URL will be redacted.
- There is a chance that the ability might be disabled when Olive is initially deployed in the coming weeks, as it also requires both a new viewer-side UI element to set it, and various internal database updates.
- This is part of the on-going work to limit the ability of some to post scam and phishing links to Group chats.
Lua Updates
- Harold Linden has finished the bulk of the migration preparation work for the next Lua server release. This basically takes all the lessons learned from Lua deployments to date & the compatibility breaks which have occurred in the past as combines them to design a file format that better handles backwards and forwards compatibility between servers on different versions.
- For those keeping an eye on the SLua Github repository, Harold has also “been doing quite a lot of work filing off the final sharp edges of the API so we have something we can happily make generally available”.
- In addition, he has rebased SLua on the latest upstream Luau release to make sure LL keep pulling in the newest work. He notes this does not off classes as yet.
- Next Lua server up liable in the next couple of weeks.
- Documentation on Lua is still being progressed.
- Contrary to rumour, Lua will be deployed simulator-side through the normal RC channels then Main SLS channel route.
- It was noted that during the eventual deployment, Lua regions will inevitably end up running alongside non-Lua regions – and it should be noted that where this is the case – Lua scripts will not survive the crossing into the “non-Lua” region (they will likely crash).
- Please refer to the video [22:11-end] for this full Lua conversation.
General Updates
- Rider Linden has been:
- Focusing on trying to resolve “some server crashes that could occur on large/complex regions at start-up”.
- Looking into a very old issue with Group notices simply disappear into the ether for some users in large groups. He believes he now has a fix for this.
- Both of these fixes should be going into the Olive update.
- As well as working on the new Group roles ability, Leviathan Linden is also working on getting game-control into Olive with anew flag which allows a server to advertise that it supports the GameControlData UDP message.
- To balance this, the game-control viewer will get a feature flag switch where it will only send that UDP message to regions that advertise support for it.
- This should help eliminate issues of versions of the game control viewer being disconnected and temporarily hardware banned from regions without game_control support as a result of sending unrecognised UDP messages, until such time as game_control is grid-wide.
- He reiterated that full keybinding with game_control will not be initially possible, but he might be willing to expand the capability in the future.
- This led to a general discussion on game_control interwoven with the Lua discussion. See the video [37:28-end].
- Monty Linden is going to have a technical discussion on EventQueueGet in the forums, and invites all those with an interest to add their thoughts / comments.
Date of Next Meetings
- Leviathan Linden: Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
- Formal SUG meeting: Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
