November is National Diabetes Month in the United States, a time when the American Diabetes Association (ADA) draws attention to diabetes awareness, prevention, treatment and support mechanisms available to  diabetes sufferers and their families.

In support of this, Team Diabetes of Second Life are and will hold a number of in-world events throughout November to help raise awareness of the disease and funds for the American Diabetes Association.

The events comprise:

The Red Hunt: running throughout November 2016 (1st through 30th), this is an open hunt, meaning you do not have to start in any order. All items are 10 lindens, with 100% proceeds going to Team Diabetes of Second Life!

In addition, November 14th in National Diabetes Day in the USA, and throughout the month, Team Diabetes of SL are giving away a free National Diabetes information pack through their in-world office at Nonprofit Commons. The pack includes information on diabetes awareness, prevention and treatment from the American Diabetes Association, and goodies for Second Life avatars!

Scare Me Silly, the first of the 2016 fund-raising season for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) opened its doors on October 13th, 2016, and will remain open through until the end of the month.

The event, organised by Team Diabetes of Second Life, features live performances. DJ parties, a 30+ prize hunt, tricks and treats, a house of horrors, a haunted mansion, ghostly rides and – of course – shopping!

Other activities include haunted rides, 7Seas Fishing, a photo contest, and the Great Pumpkin Hunt.

Team Diabetes of Second Life has announced The Red Gallery, a new art venue focused on raising money for the American Diabetes Association (ADA), for whom Team Diabetes of Second Life are the official and authorised in-world fund-raising team.

The idea for the gallery is to allow artists to display and sell their work, splitting the proceeds of any sales with Team Diabetes of SL, who will in turn donate the proceeds to the ADA.

The new gallery will be opening in the near future, but applications are now being accepted from artists wishing to participate in exhibitions rounds (lasting around 2 months apiece) at the gallery. If you are interested in supporting the ADA and Team Diabetes of Second Life in this way, please read the guidelines below and complete the official application form.

• All artists and artwork must follow the Second Life Terms of Service and Community Guidelines
• All displayed art must be the artist’s own intellectual property
• All artwork must be in keep with the Second Life moderate / mature rating; adult themed artwork is not allowed
• All items offered for sale must use the Team Diabetes split profit script
• Artists may register for multiple rounds, but must change the artwork they place on display for each round.

• When displaying work:
  • All artists are allotted 10 LI
  • Artists must group the designated Team Diabetes group to rez their work
  • No auto group joiners, particle makers, temp rezzers, or chat spammers or hover text  allowed within the gallery spaces, but touch group joiners are permitted
  • No donation kiosks or charity info for any other charity but Team Diabetes of Second Life
  • All items should be removed at the end of an artist’s assigned round(s), or will be returned. Team Diabetes of Second Life cannot be held responsible for the condition of returned items in the latter case.

Further information on exhibitions, etc., will be made available to artists who apply, and publicly announced in due course through the Team Diabetes website – and I’ll of course be carrying the information in these pages as well.

On Monday, July 18th, I received a notice from Jessii2009 Warrhol announcing the launch of the second season of fund-raising by Team Diabetes of Second Life.

According to the World Health Organisation some 422 million adults in the world have diabetes and 1.5 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year. Founded in 2015 by Jessi and John Brianna (Johannes1977 Resident), Team Diabetes of Second Life is the official and authorised team of the American Diabetes Association in SL. Their mission is to raise awareness, tolerance, and funds for diabetes in the virtual world of Second Life.

The 2016 Team Diabetes of Second life season will run from October 2016 through to January 2017, and feature the following events:

• October 13th though 31st: Scare Me Silly Shopping Event (off-season event)
• November 1st through 30th: National Diabetes Month, featuring:
  • November 1st through 30th: The Red Hunt
  • Date TBC: The Red Ball
  • Dates TBC: The Red Hop Around Shopping Event
  • Dates TBC: The Edge Anniversary Events
• December 8th through 18th: The Windlight Winter Art Show and Winter Merchant Showcase
• January 2017:
  • The Tour de Second Life bike race (dates TBD)
  • Closing events

In addition to these core events, Team Diabetes of Second Life is reaching out to communities, groups, businesses, organisations and individuals to hold fund-raising events of their own in support of the American Diabetes Association. To help with this, the team will be making a fund-raising tool kit available from August 1st, 2016, which will be available from  their in-world office at Non-Profit Commons.

The first Team Diabetes of SL Winter Art and Showcase event launches on Monday, December 7th, and will run through until Sunday, December 13th. Occupying a single, winter-themed region, the event offers something for everyone: shopping, entertainment, activities, and art, all within easy reach of one another.

Over the course of the weekend of the 5th and 6th December, bloggers have been able to access the region and explore what’s on offer for themselves, with stores and artists offering little goodies along the way.

The Winter Showcase, sponsored by Tayren’s Fantasy Fashions, features 22 merchants, including, but not limited to, Tayren’s Fantasy Fashions, Zuri Rayna Jewelry, Kittycat’s Creations, Hearthaven Photography, Meshopotamia and Chop Zuey. The showcase is located in the north-west quarter of the region, with stores neatly arranged around a central square, which offer seating from those needing a rest from shopping and well as Santa’s gazebo!

The south side of the region is devoted to 2D and 3D art, with 21 artists and photographers offer their work for viewing, including Bryn Oh, Wicca Merlin, Cica Ghost, Kayly Iali, Bluesrocker Resident and Skip Staheli. The art show is sponsored by Windlight Magazine, and all of the participating artists have contributed a winter themed image for inclusion in the special 2015 Postcards from the Winter Art Show book, which will be on sale throughout the event, with all proceeds being donated directly to Team Diabetes of SL!

Throughout the week, visitors to the Art and showcase can enjoy daily activities, including the Santa hunt, the raffle, gingerbread house building contests, the ugly sweater photo contest, the  winter giveaway and the advent calendar. Music and entertainments will also be on offer throughout the week – check the event schedule for details; however, of particular note during the week are (all times SLT):

• Tuesday, December 8th, 14:00-16:00: the formal opening of the winter Art show, featuring live performer Cassi Ansar
• Friday, December 11th, 16:00-18:00: Red and Green Ball with DJ John
• Saturday, December 12th, 10:00-Noon: dancing on ice with DJ Gem Sunkiller
• Sunday, December 13th, 13:00: Solaris Winter Queen Fashion Show.

While only in its first season, Team Diabetes of SL has already raised almost L$323,000 for the American Diabetes Association – which is no mean feat for a new charity team to achieve. Hopefully, the Art show and Showcase will see that total pushed higher. Team Diabetes of Second Life have announced their first Windlight Winter Art Show and Winter Showcase event for Second Life.

Starting on Monday, December 7th and running through until Sunday, December 13th, the Art Show and Showcase will feature a week of entertainment from Tribute bands and DJ sets, and there will be ice skating, ice fishing, a Santa hunt, a gingerbread house building contest, raffles, a winter photo contest and a special Christmas Masquerade Ball.

The Art show, sponsored and produced by Windlight Magazine and Windlight Art Gallery, will feature the work of Honey Bender, WrenNoir Cerise, Ilyra Chardin, Warm Clarity, Sparkie Cyberstar, Dawnbeam Dreamscape, Cica Ghost, Kayly Iali, JudiLynn India, Layachi Inhen, Wicca Merlin, Richie Narstrom, Bryn Oh, Inara Pey, Skip Staheli, Bluesrocker Resident, Eeraftr Resident, Johannes1977 Resident, Roffellos Resident, Saoiriseheart Resident, and Tripleplaynitely Resident.
