Team Diabetes of Second Life has announced the 2018 fund-raising season. Founded in 2015 by Jessi2009 Warrhol and John Brianna (Johannes1977 Resident), Team Diabetes of Second Life is the official and authorised team of the American Diabetes Association in SL.

Their mission is to raise awareness, tolerance, and funds for diabetes in the virtual world of Second Life. According to the World Health Organisation in 2016 some 422 million adults in the world have diabetes and 1.5 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year.

The 2018 Team Diabetes of Second life season will run from October through to December, with the following events scheduled to take place:

• October 19th though 27th: Scare Me Silly Shopping Event  and Autumn Art Show(off-season event).
• November 1st through 30th: National Diabetes Month, featuring:
  • November 1st through 30th: The Red Hunt.
  • November 3rd: The Red Ball.
  • November 14th: World Diabetes Day.
  • November 12th: The Red Ball.
• November 30th to December 9th: Winter Showcase & Winter Art Show.
• December 31st, 2018: Team Diabetes of Second Life’s Season Ends.

Scare Me Silly and Autumn Art Show

Scare Me Silly is an annual event taking place around Halloween. It features live performances. DJ parties, a hunt and a quest, tricks and treats, a haunted mansion, ghostly rides and – of course – shopping!

Merchant registrations for the event are now open, and the application form, with guidelines and terms can be found here.

The Autumn Art show will take place at the same time as, and alongside of, Scare Me Silly. Registrations are also open to both 2D and 3D artists are invited to apply. The application form, with guidelines and terms can be found here.

The 2017 Team Diabetes of Second Life Winter Art and Showcase event opens on December 1st, 2017 and run through until December 10th, inclusive. As with previous years, the event will include ten days of live performers, DJs, concerts, tribute acts, hunts, ice skating, ice fishing and, of course the Winter Showcase and the Kultivate Winter Art show. All to raise money for the American Diabetes Association (ADA), through Team Diabetes of Second Life, ADA’s official and authorised in-world fund-raising team.

Inc, OYO Breedables, Park Place, Potomac Signature Homes, Roth’s, Rush, Shiva, Simply Shelby, Sohoe Shoes, Spyralle, Steelhead, Tayren’s Fantasy Fashions, TRS Designs, Tylar’s Treasures, Winterwood, Wood Works, Xanna Wahwah Designs, and Xplicit Designs.

Merchants are each offering at least one item among their displays with 100% of proceeds from sales going directly to Team Diabetes of Second Life. The Showcase once again occupies half of Kultivate Magazine’s home region, a short walk from the brand’s art gallery spaces, and faces the Winter Art Show.

In addition to the shopping and art, the event features two hunts with prizes to be claimed:

• The Reindeer Hunt  – find the reindeer scattered throughout the events and pay each of them L$10 (all proceeds to Team Diabetes of Second Life) to claim a prize.
• Santa Quest – purchase a HUD for L$150 from the kiosk near the landing point and help put Santa together again after he crashed his sleigh! Find the pieces, put things together and claim ten prizes.

There is also daily entertainment through the event – see the event and entertainment schedule for entertainers and times.

November is National Diabetes Month in the United States, a time when the American Diabetes Association (ADA) draws attention to diabetes awareness, prevention, treatment and support mechanisms available to  diabetes sufferers and their families.

In support of this, Team Diabetes of Second Life are marking the month with a number of fund-raising and informational events, as announced in a November 3rd press release.

The Red Hunt, November 1st through 30th –  an open hunt, meaning you do not have to start in any order. All items are 10 lindens, with 100% proceeds going to Team Diabetes of Second Life. Refer to the Red Hunt web page for more information, including participating stores and SLurls.

The Red Fling, November 1st through 30th –  stores throughout Second Life each have 1 item that is in a red vendor and offered for sale with 100% of the proceeds going to Team Diabetes of Second Life.

Live Healthy Tips – distributed via Kultivate Magazine’s in-world groups and the Team Diabetes website, through until the end of November.

The Red Ball and Art Exhibition, November 12th – an art exhibition and ball with live performers over two hours, together with fund-raising. Details to follow on the Team Diabetes website.

In addition, November 14th in National Diabetes Day in the USA, and throughout the month, Team Diabetes of SL are giving away a free National Diabetes information pack through their in-world office at Nonprofit Commons. The pack includes information on diabetes awareness, prevention and treatment from the American Diabetes Association, and goodies for Second Life avatars!

Organised by Team Diabetes of Second Life, the event features live performances. DJ parties, a hunt and a quest,  tricks and treats, a haunted mansion, ghostly rides and – of course – shopping!

This year, attendees can participate in the Evil Pumpkin Hunt and / or the Skeleton Quest. The pumpkins in the hunt are scatters across the Scare Me Silly event grounds. They contain a variety of hunt prizes from creators. Find them, pay L$10 to each of them (all payments go the Team Diabetes of Second Life) and claim the prizes within!

The Skeleton Quest costs L$500 to enter. Attach the Quest HUD, find all of the skeleton parts in the haunted mansion and claim a haul of 30 prizes! All proceeds from the sale of HUDs go to Team Diabetes of Second Life.

Merchant and Blogger Applications

Team Diabetes of Second Life is currently seeking designers and merchants willing to participate in their events and in helping in raising funds for the American Diabetes Association. Involvement in all events is free, all designers and merchants are asked to do is follow the donations rules provided for each event. Currently, designers and merchants can apply for:

• Scare Me Silly application (October 13th-31st, 2017)
• The Red Fling application (November 1st-30st, 2017)

Further event applications will be posted on the Team Diabetes of SL website in due course.

Bloggers wishing to support and cover Team diabetes of SL events are asked to complete 2017 Team Diabetes of SL Blogger’s Application.

In addition to the events mentioned above, individuals, businesses, and organisations are encouraged to hold fund-raising events in support of Team Diabetes of Second Life! The official 2017 fund-raising season tool kit will be available to the second life public on September 1, 2017, at the organisation’s office in the Non-Profit Commons, Second Life.
