Following their invitation for people to submit destinations for the Second Life Halloween Creepy Crawl / Linden Lab meet-up, Xiola Lab has now blogged details of the event, which is to be combined with a costume contest with a prize pool of L$50,000 on offer in prizes to be given at each stage of the Crawl around Halloween-theme locations in Second Life.

The 2016 event will take place – when else? – Monday, October 31st, from 10:00 through 15:00 SLT. Ten locations have been selected, and Second Life residents are invited to join staff from the Lab as they hop from place to place, or rendezvous with them at a given time and location, depending on personal schedules.

Commenting on the costume contest, Xiola notes:

Costumes are strongly encouraged for this event – so come out and show off your best and you could win big! This year, at EVERY stop on our crawl, we will be giving away L$5,000 to one lucky winner whose costume catches our eye. That’s 10 stops, 10 winners, and a total of L$50,000 in prizes! Just keep in mind that this event is for General and Moderate audiences when perfecting your look. For full contest rules please visit the wiki. If you still need a costume or three – check out the Shop ’til You Drop event for your one stop Halloween party shopping.

There’s also a special gift from Boudoir of a wearable pumpkin pile available (one per avatar),  which will be available via kiosks at each of the selected stops on the Crawl.

The schedule for the event is (all times SLT, all rated Moderate, unless otherwise stated) is as follows:

Be a part of the Lab’s 2016 Halloween events

The latest in the Lab’s social meet-ups in-world with residents is currently in the planning stages. Given the time of year, the Lab have decided to mix the Halloween season into things and hold a “travelling meet-up”. They’re also putting together the Halloween Shop ‘Til You Drop event, as a blog post from Xiola explains.

Following the success of the 2015 Creepy Crawl, the Lab are looking to do the same in 2016: spend time in-world hopping from venue to venue, spending time with residents at each, dancing chatting and generally having a good time. The event will take place on Monday, October 31st, and the full details for those just wishing to hop along and join the fun will be announced in due course.

However, for those who wish to offer their venue / place as a possible stop along the way, there are some simple instructions to follow, as Xiola states in the blog post:

  1. Make sure your place is listed in the Destination Guidehere’s how to submit.
  2. Hop over to this form and fill it out before October 20th – we’ll start selecting the venues after that!
  3. Keep an eye out for an email and/or notecard after the 20th to let you know if your venue was selected.

So, if you fancy hosting a little Linden Halloween fun, make sure you get your venue in the DG (if it isn’t already) and fill-out the application form – do keep in mind that preferred venues should be

Shop ‘Til You Drop is a Halloween-themed shopping event taking place between Friday, October 21st and Monday, October 31st 2016.

If you’re a Merchant who specializes in costumes and other Halloween-themed items and would like to participate, the Lab invites you to fill-out and submit the Halloween Shopping Event form – keep in mind the event will be open to a General-rated audience. Selected Merchants will be offered a booth to display and sell some of their items at a special discounted price to shoppers. Given the time frame, Merchants are advised to submit the form sooner rather than later, and to keep in mind that not everyone may be successful in applying.

Again, for those wishing to attending the event, further details will be forthcoming from the Lab nearer the date.

Earth Day and Lindens at Calas Galadhon, April 22

Update April 20th: Xiola has now blogged on this get-together.

Friday April 22nd marks Earth Day, when events are held all over the world in support of  environmental protection.

First held in 1970, Earth Day is now  marked in 193 countries around the world, and coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network. This year, Earth Day will also be marked by the formal signing of the Paris Agreement on climate change, negotiated earlier in the year, is due to be signed by 120 nations.Earth-Day

I’ve had my little birds flitting around Second Life, and I’ve heard from one of them that to mark Earth Day in-world, the Lab is planning another Meet the Lindens event for Friday, April 22nd.

The get-together will take place, I understand from around 10:00 through until noon SLT at the marvellous Calas Galadhon Park.

For those who haven’t visited Calas Galadhon, it is a stunning vision of the outdoors, covering 10 regions, and as such is the ideal location in which to get together with staff from the Lab (and perhaps a few Moles). I understand – although this is subject to confirmation – the main Calas landing point will be used for the meet-up.

There hasn’t been an official blog post on the meet-up as yet, but I understand that Xiola will be producing one in the near future – so keep an eye on the official blog for the latest on the meet-up. I’ll be updating this article once Xiola has posted 🙂 .

Flash: Lindens and Moles in Winter Wonderland meet-up?

Winter Wonderland village - Linden and Mole meet-up?
Winter Wonderland village – Linden and Mole meet-up?

There are rumours circulating that members of the Lab and a number of moles will be present at the Winter Wonderland, near the landing area and later at the snowball fight arena.

The rumours appear to originate with Patch Linden, who is reported to have been heard whispering:

Today at around 11am SLT we’re going to be doing a Linden/Mole meet and greet in the Winter Wonderland regions near the landing area.  We’ll probably hang out there for a bit handing out gifts and then we’re going to spend the rest of the afternoon in the snowball arena.

So, if you’re looking for something to do, why not hop over to the Winter Wonderland and see if the rumours are true?

Lab announces “Creepy Crawl” destinations

secondlifeOn Wednesday, October 28th, Xiola Linden blogged about the routine of the 2015 Halloween Creepy Crawl  / meet-up, and invited residents to get their costumes ready.

The Event will take place between 10:00 and 15:00 SLT on Friday, October 30th, and will be moving through a number of selected venues. Xiola’s post reads in part:

“What is the Creepy Crawl?” you may ask. It’s a scary-good in-world event where Lindens and Residents get dressed up in their best Halloween costumes and roam from spooky spot to spooky spot for music, dancing, and celebrating! It’s going to be a bit like a ‘pub crawl’ without the need for taxi fare.

Costumes are strongly encouraged for this event – some come out and show off your best. I am still deciding between 4 different costume choices I’ve put together and may have to wear all 4 at some point during the crawl. It’s a good thing we’ll have 5 hours to run amok and have fantastical fun. Just keep in mind that this event is for General and Moderate audiences when perfecting your look.

Things will start at 10:00 SLT at the Bay City Halloween Maze, which I also blogged about earlier in the month. From here, things will progress as follows (all times SLT, all locations rated Moderate unless indicated):

The final destination will be the Haunted Halloween Tour (Portal Parks rated G), which the Crawl should reach at around 14:30 SLT, and will give people a chance to try out the 2015 version of the Lab’s Halloween ride, which I’ve also reviewed for those interested.

So, if you’re up for some suitably spooky fun with friends and Lab staff, dig out a costume or two and be sure to drop in on one or more of the venues listed for the tour.

The latest in the Lab’s renewed social meet-ups in-world with residents is currently in the planning stages. Given the time of year, the Lab have decided to mix the Halloween season into things and hold a “travelling meet-up”, as a blog post from Xiola about the “Creepy Crawl” explains:

A-haunting we will go! This year we’re going to take inworld meetups and Halloween shenanigans and mix them together for a frightful mashup of mind-blowingly fun times. But – we need your help to make it happen.

Are you interested in hosting a stop along our Second Life Creepy Crawl? We’re looking for spots that will have music, are appropriate for general and moderate audiences, and don’t mind having a few Lindens and Residents dropping in all at once to dance and hang out for a bit.
