Viewer release summary 2012: week 34

The following is summary of changes to SL viewers / clients (official and TPV) which have taken place in the past week. It is based on my Viewer Round-up Page, which provides a list of  all Second Life viewers and clients that are in popular use (and of which I am aware) and which are recognised as being in adherence with the TPV Policy.

  • SL Viewer updates:
    • Beta version rolled to 3.4.0.263727 on August 20 – release notes
    • Development: rolled to 3.4.1.263920 on August 16
    • Mesh Deformer updated to 3.3.1.264008 on August 24
  • Cool Viewer: Stable branch rolled to 1.26.4.27  and Experimental to 1.26.5.6, both on August 26 – release notes for both
  • Singularity release version 1.7.1.2888 on August 22 – release notes
  • Lumiya updated to 2.2.2 on August 20 – release notes

Updates for the week ending: 19 August, 2012

  • SL Viewer updates:
    • Development: rolled to 3.4.1.263582 on Aug 16
  • Dolphin rolled to 3.3.19.24756 on August 17 – core updates: hotkey to open / close Outfits floater; added Preferences option (Prefs->Dolphin Viewer 3->Build) to save scipts as LSL or Mono when editing directly from Inventory; added “auto media play” button (“A”) to media controls at the top right of the viewer window; Client (avatar) Phantom option hidden (no longer functional under pathfinding) – release notes. Dolphin also announced cessation of OpenSim support in preparation for Havok sub-licence compliance
  • Exodus release version 12.08.14.1 on August 16, (release notes) – primarily a hot fix release for the 12.08.09.1 release, incorporating Visual C++ 2010 runtime to avoid installation errors ability to rez objects under land group; updates to visual presets and raid advisor lists formats to conform with LLSD
  • Niran’s Viewer rolled to 1.49 on August 14 – core changes:  further updates to the Preferences overlay; Graphics tab in default Preferences updated; bug fixes (release notes)
  • Restrained Love Viewer released version 2.8.3.4 on August 17 – core updates: pathfinding tools (excluding Navmesh visualisation*), improved Mouselook aiming controls; JPEG library handling improvements to reduce crash rates (release notes)
  • Zen viewer rolled to version 3.4.0.2 on  August 17, after rapidly cycling through updates on the 13th and 14th August. Core updates – pathfinding tools (excluding Navmesh visualisation*); removal of mesh deformer; Keyword Alerts added to Preferences->Chat; Remove Scripts option added to menus; updated shaders; numerous bug fixes (release notes)
  • Cool Viewer: Stable branch rolled to 1.26.4.25  and Experimental to 1.26.5.4, both on August 18 – core updates in both: initial pathfinding support (excluding Navmesh visualisation*); various SLV 3.3. code back ports (release notes for both)
  • LittleSight released version 1.1.0 – fix fix release for failed log-ins and other issues

  • SL Viewer updates:
  • Dolphin rolled to 3.3.18.24749  on August 10th – core updates: Asset Blacklist redcord region name when object added; Media Filter list now shared between all avatar accounts on same OS; slider add the Graphics Prefs for improving mesh rez times in areas with a lot of mesh; added improved avatar vertex weights from STORM-1800 for better avatar bending / stretching; Improved handling of SLurls between webpages and running Dolphin viewer (release notes)
  • Exodus release version 12.08.09.1 on Aug 9, (release notes) – which I review here
  • Niran’s Viewer rolled to 1.48 on Aug 6 – core changes: Alterations to the log-in splash screen; addition of core pathfinding tools to menus; merge with Exodus rendering pipe; assorted fixes (release notes)
  • Cool Viewer: Stable branch rolled to 1.26.4.24  and Experimental to 1.26.5.3, both on Aug 11th – core updates in both: initial pathfinding support; various SLV 3.3. code back ports (release notes for both)
  • Lumiya release version 2.2.0 on Aug 8th and then 2.2.1 on Aug 11 – core updates: completely revised and enhanced UI; split-screen functionality; options to add / remove friends, offer teleports, set and auto response message (release notes) – read my review here

  • SL Viewer updates:
    • Beta: rolled to 3.4.0.262596, July 30 – core update: addition of viewer-side pathfinding tools (also see my notes on the tools)
    • Development: rolled to 3.4.1.262722 on Aug 2nd
    • The Pathfinding viewer has been removed from the list, as the code is now incorporated in the Beta viewer
  • Dolphin rolled to 3.3.12.24739  on August 2nd – core updates: the reset, start, stop, remove, recompile script operations now request confirmation & can be accessed from the context menu of an in-world object; temporary upload is available when doing snapshots to inventory (release notes)
  • Niran’s Viewer rolled to 1.47 on Jul 30 – core changes: updates to experimental Preferences overlay; FPS counter will be displayed as text by default; assorted fixes (release notes)
  • Cool Viewer:
    • Stable branch rolled to 1.26.4.23 on Aug 4th, and is referred to as a “catchup release with the v1.26.5 branch”
    • Experimental version (SL3.3 renderer) rolled to release 1.26.5.2 on Aug 4
    • Release notes for both
  • Group Tools rolled to installer release 2.2.8 on July 28th.

Updates for the week ending: 29 July, 2012

  • SL Viewer updates:
    • The release version rolled to 3.3.4.262321 on July 24 (release notes)
    • Development: rolled to 3.3.5.262596 (July 26) and then 262681 on July 27: core update: addition of viewer-side pathfinding tools (also see my notes on the tools)
    • HTTP Project Viewer 333.262585, July 27th – initial release of a unified approach to HTTP-based communications between the viewer and grid services with a goal of achieving reliability, consistency and a better overall experience on the grid.
  • Dolphin rolled to 24724 on July 27th, which apparently contained “serious flaws on windows”, prompting the release of 24731 on July 28th, with an advisory that anyone running 24724 on Windows should immediately update – release notes are as per 24724
  • Niran’s Viewer rolled to 1.46 on July 26th – core changes: experimental new Preferences overlay; removal of Darkness skin; some rendering updates
  • The Cool Viewer Experimental version (SL3.3 renderer) rolled to release 1.26.5.1 on July 29 – core changes: renderer updated to SL 3.3.4; added options for Classic Clouds and animating trees; backport of support for private memory pools from viewer 3; Advanced menu more logically arranged
  • Group Tools rolled to installer release 2.2.8 on July 28th.

    • Beta version:3.3.4.262068, July 18
    • Development: rolled to 3.3.5.262070, July 18
  • Niran’s Viewer rolled to 1.44 on July 16th – core changes: use of LL’s Viewer rendering code; performance improvements; faster rendering of shadows, local lights, occlusion, etc.; integration of tone mapping from the Exodus Viewer
  • Singularity rolled to 1.7.0 on July 16 – core updates:- Multi-Wear release; general graphics engine update; region windlight support; RLVa partial update to 1.4; LSL editor update; sound system bug fixes & new sound system FMOD Ex; mouselook gun aiming incorporated; new build preferences; radar now indicates gesture/sound/particle/animation spam; holding Shift while crouching works as crouch toggle (release notes)
  • LittleSight was added to my list of Android clients on July 22 – review here
