Unfortunately, the L$ purchase fee reduction isn’t all it seems, as Linden Lab put out a second post yesterday — https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/second-life-pricing-updates-r11294/ — revealing that the percentage charged above the minimum will be 11% rather than 10%, and the maximum fee will rise from $14.99 to $29.99.
So everyone will be getting squeezed for more cash, even if (like me) they’ve downgraded to Basic.
I’ll admit that, in the grand scheme of things, it won’t impact me greatly, but that’s because I’m spending less in-world these days. But the way the Lab have framed this does leave a bad taste in the mouth.
(On a personal note, the real kicker for me is that these changes are coming into effect on my RL birthday. 🙁)

Thanks, I didn’t receive notification of the other fee post – and failed to check the blog feed, so have now updated the post above.

A 20% price increase on Premium!?!?
From US$50 for a last name, to this 20% gouging Premium price increase, to the even higher fees for L$ than the huge L$ buy fee increase of a couple years ago, LL doesn’t seem to have any awareness of today’s challenging economics. They just seem to want buckets of cash from us.
It might be time to give up my land.

Welp that’s it for me then. I just upgraded to premium plus a month-ish ago, and I also just bought L’s. To double the price of maximum fees for buying L’s AND an additional 39 bucks per year for Premium Plus, I’m definitely out when my plus ends, and there will be no more buying L’s for me. SL has been fading for a while now for me, and the benefits do not equal the costs. My RL responsibilities and priorities and those expenses come first. So next year I’ll be saying goodbye to all the friends I’ve made over these past 20 years. I’m so SO beyond done at this point. I’ve just had enough. I hope LL is prepared for a mass exodus, cause I know I won’t be the only one among the masses who are going to be leaving. I guess they finally ran it into the ground.

If they are going to increase the subscription prices, they should at least give us more groups or some sort of tangible value for the increase.

That seems to be the main complaint around subscriptions, folks are expected to pay more for the same benefits. I suspect the Lab will respond with “well, we DID increase group slots last year” and point to the new gifts-and-exclusive-event-access that they announced a few months ago, but that’s not really much of an excuse.
