BURN2 2015 will be opening its gates on Saturday 17th October, and will run through until Sunday 25th October 2015, culminating in the burning of the Man on Saturday, October 24th and the burning of the Temple on Sunday, October 25th.

The official press release describers the theme as being:

About mirrors and masks, mazes and merger. It will be a kind of magic show that takes the form of an old­ fashioned carnival. This Carnival of Mirrors asks three essential question:  within our media­ saturated world, where products and people, consumption and communion morph into an endlessly diverting spectacle, who is the trickster and who is being tricked, and how might we discover who we really are?

Classic carnivals, as theatres of illusion, upheld a very strict dividing line that separated  carnies, cast as showmen, from members of a naïve public who were labelled chumps and  suckers, marks and rubes. Our carnival, however, will perform an even more subversive trick  — its motto is Include the Rube. The wall dividing the observer from observed will disappear,  as by an act of magic; through the alchemy of interaction, everyone at once can be the carny  and the fool.

The plot sale is now open, as is the Plot Lottery and Juried Art Applications. You can purchase a plot for BURN2 directly from the kiosks on the playa, with parcels priced as follows:

• 512 sq m / 117 LI – L$2,500
• 1024 sq m / 234 LI – L$5,000
• 208 sq m / 468 LI – L$10,000
• 4096 sq m / 936 LI – L$10,000

Please ensure you read all the information on an application forms, and that you also read the
Builder Guidelines and Ten Principles before you submit your application. Aesthetics mirroring the Black Rock Desert are in effect for this event.

In addition, the BURN2 organisers have opened a sim name survey, and are asking BURN2 supporters to indicate their five favourite region names from past BURN2 events. The five most popular names will then be used for the 5 additional regions for the Carnival of Mirrors. The deadline for the completion of the survey is 20:00 SLT, Thursday, August 20th, 2015.

The BURN2 team have announced the latest in the series of BURN2 events for 2015. with it, come invitations to artists, builders, DJs, musicians, blogger and the Second Life populace as a whole to join with them for three days of art, music and events that will take place between Friday, July 10th and Sunday July 12th, 2015.

Called Primordial the event will, in the words of the official announcement:

Find a way to look back at how our beloved Playa may once have been, so a window was opened to one fanciful possibility of the past.

A primeval jungle surrounds the Playa as it was long long ago, a great lake.  On the edges here and there are hot springs and geysers, some of which remain even until today. Steam drifts from them out across the water in the same way the dust we know so well does today.  Thick mats of vegetation float upon the surface, some large and strong enough to hold sizeable structures.  Other mats are less substantial. You must pick your path across the maze of them; one wrong step and you drop below into briny water.  Who knows what else has slipped below? What rests or lives there awaiting its genesis, ready to emerge in the next stage of our growth?

Parcels for artists, builders and creators on the Playa are being provided free of charge, and are available for builds on land, in / on the water or floating over the water.  Those interested in applying for a parcel should:

• Read the Primordial builders’ guidelines
• Complete the artists / builders creators sign-up form
• Ensure they adhere to the 10 Principles of Burning Man

Musicians, DJs and performers wishing to participate on stage at Primordial should:

• Read the self-sign-up guidelines
• Add their details to the self-sign-up calendar
• Be familiar with the 10 Principles of Burning Man (those who have not performed at BURN2 before will be asked to complete a short orientation, as per the sign-up guidelines)

No closing dates for applications appear to be given, but as BURN2 events are very popular, parcels and stage slots are liable to fill-up fast – so the sooner those intending to apply do so, the better their chances!

Friday, March 27th through Sunday, March 29th, inclusive, marks the 2015 BURN2 Burnal Equinox event, which will take place at Burning Man Deep Hole.

The theme for this year’s event is Balance, an explanation of which is provided in the BURN2 blog post which accompanied the announcement, and which reads in part:

Equinox is the time when the day and night are of equal length, it is also the start of both Spring and Autumn. In the virtual world we can mix all things together, so we can have bats flying down to sip the nectar from the new spring flowers in the daytime, or autumn leaves transforming into butterflies at night. As always our only limitation is our imagination.

Seventeen artists are offering builds in the region, all focus on the subject of balance, and all wide-ranging in interpretation and presentation, making touring them a fascinating experience, as they touch on the physical, the spiritual, the mental, the emotional nature of having, discovering, finding or even losing, balance.

As well as the art installations, the weekend will seen a range of events taking place,  starting with the opening by the Lamplighters and d-oo-b, and will continue through the weekend with a mix of live musicians and artists and DJs, and also include displays and shows at some of the installations themselves. The BURN2 team have announced the dates for the BURN2 Burnal Equinox, which this year will take place from Friday, March 27th through Sunday, March 29th, inclusive.

This year we are trying hard to take all into account, welcome all time zones and all parts of the globe. With this in mind we like to remember that while Equinox is when day and night are in equal measure, it is also both Spring and Autumn/Fall at the same time with the Northern and Southern hemispheres. So what does Balance mean to you? Don’t just give us your ideas (although at least that is good too), but join in and help make some of them happen. In the spirit of balance, experienced and inexperienced, long standing members and brand new additions to the community are welcome and encouraged to take a part.

Those wishing to participate in the Burnal Equinox as a builder are invited to complete and submit the Builder Request form, while DJs, live musicians and performers who wish to take part in the event are invited to complete and submit the Performance / Stage form.

Santalarity, the BURN2 seasonal event, will this year kick-off at 10:00 SLT on Saturday, December 13th ans run for 24 hours.

Santalarity is BURN2’s antithesis of the typical  rushed holiday season focused on profits and buying, on unrealistic expectations and joy found in aisle 3.

So reads the event’s press release, which continues:

Instead we ask, “What’s in the box?” What do we want to give? We invite you to come to the playa, to observe artists’ interpretations of these questions; to skate, dance, drum and be present when we Burn the Box. Before the Box is burned,  messages left by visitors to the playa will be read, which will express what they would like to give. To give without expectation of return. To give for the pure joy of giving.

The event itself will start with an initial drumming by the Lamplighters. The Box will burn twice during the event, at 12:00 noon SLT and again at 20:00 SLT.

Artists and builders wishing to participate in Santalarity by building to the theme of What’s in the Box.  Land plots are free, and applications should be made via the What’s in the Box application form.

DJs and live performers who would like to participate in the event are invited to submit their details through the Santalarity Performer sign-up form. Questions about performance scheduling should be addressed to the BURN2 Performance Lead, Larree Quixote in-world.

BURN2 2014 opened its gates on Saturday, October 18th and will run through until Sunday October 28th.

As with previous years, the festival is spread across six regions, all in the familiar desert look, surrounded by sandy hills that add to the atmosphere and give more of a feel that the event is connected with the real life Burning Man festival.

The theme for this year is “caravansary”, with the press release on the festival noting:

This year, we will create a caravansary that occupies the crossroads of a dreamland: a bazaar of the bizarre, wherein treasures of every sort, from every land and age, flow in and out to be flaunted, lost, exploited and discovered. This is not a tourist destination, but a home for travelers who come here bearing gifts. Amid the twisting and the turnings of its souk, participants will come upon an inexhaustible array of teeming goods and unexpected services.

Anyone may pose as ‘merchant’ here, and anyone may play a ‘customer’, but nothing in this strange emporium shall have a purchase price — no quid, no pro, no quo — no trade at all will be allowed in this ambiguous arcade. According to a rule of desert hospitality, the only thing of value in this ‘marketplace’ will be one’s interaction with a fellow being.

There are the usual features for the event waiting to be found and experienced. These include the huge, hanger-like bulk of the Temple (set to burn twice on Sunday, October 26th at noon and 20:00 SLT), within which sits an intricate display of light, colour and statues, and before which stand images of Temples past; and the equally huge figure of the Man, awaiting his turn to burn on Saturday, October 25th, again at noon and 20:00 SLT.  There will also be the familiar and much-loved Lamp Lighters Processions twice daily (11:00 and 19:00 SLT most days), and the familiar mix of entertainments throughout.

Across the Playa, many of the builds have entered fully into the theme, offering tented shade, rich rugs, and places to sit and rest, much as traders on the great Asian trade routes may once have camped around the caravansaries to be found along their way and shared one another’s hospitality. Others are more whimsical in nature  – such as the Loch Nest Camel; Nessie with a hump, you might say…

You can find your way around the Playa on foot – just follow the grid tracks. If you prefer, you can hop aboard one of the tour balloons and drift around the regions; and if you feel particularly daring, you could grab a ride from one of the DMV (Department of Mutant Vehicles!) rezzers (look for the red signs).
