SL projects update week 7/1: server / viewer

News is a little light at the moment., although there are a number of things in the works and yet to be opened to public viewing.

Server Deployments: week 7

As always, please refer to the server deployment thread in the forums for the latest updates / changes.

  • On Tuesday February 11th, the Main channel received the server maintenance package previously on the three RC channels which includes a crash fix.
  • There will be no RC channel deployments, and it is not anticipated that the RC regions will not be subject to a rolling restart.

This means there will be no Main channel deployment in week 8 (week commencing Monday February 17th. However, there should be a new server maintenance package deployed that week.

SL Viewer Updates

Fitted Mesh

The Fitted Mesh RC version: was promoted to the de facto release viewer on Monday February 10th, complete with a video from Torley Linden.

See my coverage here, and my Fitted Mesh preview article (now slightly dated).

As a result of this, the remaining RC viewers will be updated in due course to match the current release build.

Group Ban Lists

The work on group ban list functionality is going through a further round of internal testing at LL. It is still anticipated that a project viewer will be emerging for testing on Aditi (the Beta grid) in the very near future.

    1. I’m not entirely sure of the update you’re referring to: the server update (in which case, unlikely) or the arrival of Fitted Mesh in the LL viewer. In terms of the latter, the Fitted Mesh code has been a part of Singularity since the release of version 1.8.5 on January 28th. However, the best way to check is to contact the Singularity team directly and relay your issues to them.

  1. Did not noticed any diff from usual yesterday, besides region restarts and an unsual time before login in (probably while maintenance) but i use Ukando that is not yet updated with latest LL fitted mesh code.

  2. I’ve been trying the suggestion of replacing a couple of files, defining the avatar, with the files from the current SL viewer. I’ve not see any sign of it breaking anything, and it should avert any problems from seeing an AV wearing Fitted Mesh. I didn’t find this hard to do, but it does need a certain confidence.

There are rumours about what the looming Firestorm news will be. If it isn’t Fitted Mesh support right now, this very instant, website-crashing, download drama. I think there’s time for a final polish. I can’t really see content creators being that quick to respond.

I expect things to be happening by the end of the month.

    1. There’ll obviously be more news following the Firestorm Q&A scheduled for for the 15th February. All i will say is that your “by the end of the month” look isn’t (if all goes as planned) that wide of the mark.

  3. My question is, so far nobody noticed any break of content due to the new bones, i mean on animations and so on? If not noticed then for sure fitted mesh will be arriving sooner, with or without firestorm support!
